Drawing on visual traditions as varied as American street & folk art, German expressionism, Christian icons, Zen ensos, and minimalism, brothers Kris & Scott Neely create images of grief & birth. Downtown Art Walk on This Thursday!
Friends!
In all your holiday hustling, don't forget the Spartanburg Art Walk this Thursday, Dec.18, 5-9PM!
During the evening, please make plans to step over to the Guild Gallery.
I will be painting my Guardians in the gallery space during the hours of the walk, 5-9pm.
These angels are art objects painted on found wood. In this setting, they are priced from $15 - 100 dollars and are a part of our current show.
It will be delightful to share this work with the Spartanburg community in this way. I always hear the wildest stories when I paint Guardians in public.
A recent article in TIME Magazine (Thursday, Sep. 18, 2008) has given me more insight into the fascinating stories that surface from these events. David Van Biema reported, "More than half of all Americans believe they have been helped by a guardian angel in the course of their lives, according to a new poll by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion. In a poll of 1700 respondents, 55% answered affirmatively to the statement, 'I was protected from harm by a guardian angel.' The responses defied standard class and denominational assumptions about religious belief; the majority held up regardless of denomination, region or education — though the figure was a little lower (37%) among respondents earning more than $150,000 a year."
Don't let the orange cones deter you. Come share your story, or listen to others tell their tales on Thursday night.
We hope it will be a special feature to draw a few more people to the Chapman Cultural Center during the monthly art walk. As we continue to develop that feeling of connectedness in the downtown, please help us get the word out to your contacts in the community.
Thanks for your support.
Happy Holidays!
